CEA statement on appointment of Colorado education commissioner

Statement from CEA President Kerrie Dallman on today’s appointment of Richard Crandall as Colorado’s commissioner of education.

“CEA members congratulate Richard Crandall on his appointment today as Colorado’s commissioner of education. We see several significant opportunities to collaborate with Commissioner Crandall and his staff; most notably, in successfully implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act and fulfilling the federal law’s exciting potential to empower Colorado educators with a greater voice in instructional decisions. CEA members also want to lend our professional expertise in designing appropriate accountability systems for all schools and districts with a focus on high-poverty areas, providing educators ongoing professional learning opportunities, and setting a cap on the amount of time students spend taking standardized tests. We look forward to continuing our partnership with CDE under Commissioner Crandall’s leadership to improve our public schools for every Colorado student.”
