Social Security Fairness Act reintroduced

The Social Security Fairness Act was reintroduced in Congress last month. The new bill numbers are S. 206 and H.R. 82.

We support the repeal of the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP); they penalize some public employees by cutting or eliminating Social Security benefits they or their spouses earned. U.S. Senators Wayne Allard and Ken Salazar are not currently Senate sponsors. So far, Reps. Mark Udall (CD-2) and John Salazar (CD-3) are the only Colorado co-sponsors in the House.

NEA has made it VERY easy for you to get active on this issue. Simply go to the NEA Legislative Action Center to learn more about the GPO and WEP issues - and to find out how to e-mail your representatives in Congress and ask them to vote for the new bills.
