Colorado Coalition for Retirement SecurityCEA and other labor unions have formed a statewide coalition of active employees and retirees. The Colorado Coalition for Retirement Security held a news conference April 11 to focus public attention on its opposition to the sweeping changes proposed for PERA in legislation and a November initiative. CEA Political Director Lynne Mason and AFSCME Executive Director Mark Schwane are co-chairs of the coalition which includes more than 100,000 public employees. At the news conference, Mason said, “Our opposition to the two-tier system is firm. It is not fair to balance PERA on the backs of new employees." Cherry Creek Education Association president Jody Dosher and retired Aurora EA member Connie Anderson both spoke at the news conference. Dosher said a two-tier system would communicate to future hires a message that they are less valuable. "It is hard enough to recruit and retain teachers," he said. "Don't gamble with the future.
