Health and Education: The Essential LinkAs education employees, we know that healthy students have the greatest capacity for learning. And we know that people both students and educators have to learn to be healthy. That is why NEA founded the Health Information Network (HIN) in 1987. HIN is a nonprofit, tax-exempt partnership among NEA, the National Association of School Nurses, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The partnership provides education employees, students, schools and communities with essential information on public health issues, ranging from breast cancer to HIV/AIDS, from proper nutrition to the avoidance of environmental hazards. With contributions from public and private sources, HIN provides the link between education and health that helps our students - and all of us as educators - make the right choices to live long, fulfilling lives.
