Retired CEA-NEA Membership

2006-07 Retired Member Dues: There are four combinations from which to choose:

  • Retired Annual CEA-NEA: $35 ($10 CEA + $25 NEA, paid annually in one payment)
  • Retired CEA Lifetime/NEA Lifetime: $325 ($125 CEA + $200 NEA, paid only once in one payment)
  • Retired Annual CEA/NEA Lifetime: $210 ($10 CEA paid annually + $200 NEA paid only once)
  • Retired CEA Lifetime/NEA Annual: $150 ($125 CEA paid only once + $25 NEA paid annually)

Retired Lifetime Dues are paid once and never assessed again, and you are considered a Continuous Retired Member.

Annual Dues are paid each year. If you choose Annual Dues or a combination of Annual and Lifetime, you will receive a renewal notice from CEA each August. Our membership year is September 1-August 31. If you join as an Annual Retired Member at any time during our membership year, your membership is good until August 31. Retired dues are not pro-rated if you join after September 1.

If there is a Retired Local Association where you were employed before retiring, you must also join the local. Currently, there are Retired Local Associations in Jefferson County, Denver, Central Adams UniServ Unit (Mapleton, District 14, District 12, and Brighton), Spanish Peaks UniServ Unit (various locals in and around Pueblo), Pikes Peak UniServ Unit, Colorado Springs UniServ Unit, Northern Colorado UniServ Unit and Mesa Valley EA.

Choose the Membership Option that best describes your employment/retirement status:
  • I am currently working and interested in a Pre-Retired Membership.
An Active Member can purchase a Pre-Retired Membership which locks in current dues and is “on hold” until you retire.

Beginning in September after you retire, when we convert your Pre-Retired membership to a Retired membership, you will need to pay unified dues: NEA Retired Lifetime or Annual; CEA Retired Lifetime or Annual; and Local Retired Lifetime or Annual if there is a Retired Local Association where you were employed before retirement.

Click here for a Membership Form. Write a check for your dues. Mail your form and the check to Julie Moot, Colorado Education Association, 1500 Grant Street, Denver, Colorado 80203-1800.

  • This is my Transition Retirement (or “110”) Year.
If you are employed as a Transition Retiree, you are required to be an Active Member and join through your Active Teacher or ESP Local Association. You should contact the Association Representative in your current Local Association for a membership form or print this form.

You may be able to continue paying dues by payroll deduction. If this is not available to Transition Retirees in your local, you can pay dues through automatic checking account deduction/electronic funds transfer. If you choose to do this, complete both the membership form and this EFT Form.

  • I am no longer actively employed in public education.
We invite you to convert your Active Membership to Retired Member status in order to continue receiving Association benefits and services. We suggest that you do this during the summer following your retirement and before September 1 so there is no break in your membership. (A break in membership means that you cannot continue to access Association benefits and services including programs of NEA Member Benefits.)

If there is a Retired Local Association where you were employed before retiring, you must join the retired local, CEA, and NEA. Currently, there are Retired Local Associations in Jefferson County, Denver, Central Adams UniServ Unit (Mapleton, District 14, District 12, and Brighton), Northern Colorado Retired Educators Association, Spanish Peaks UniServ Unit (various locals in and around Pueblo), Colorado Springs UniServ Unit, Pikes Peak UniServ Unit and Mesa Valley EA. Click on the Retired Local that applies to you and send an e-mail request for information about joining as a Retired member with local dues.

If there is not a Retired Local Association where you were employed before retiring, you may join CEA-NEA through CEA. Click here for a membership form. Write a check for your dues. Mail your form and the check to Julie Moot, Colorado Education Association, 1500 Grant Street, Denver, Colorado 80203.

  • I have retired and am substitute teaching or working in public education more than 30 days during the school year.
If you are working in a long term teaching assignment, you are required to be an Active Member for the period of time in which you are working this assignment.

Find your Local Association here. Print this membership form, complete it and give it to the Association Representative in your school. Your AR will help you obtain payroll deduction for dues (available in most locals) and assist you in completing the appropriate forms. Your Local Association may use a different form - but this one will get you started.

You can join at any time during the year. If you join after September 15, the Local Association, in determining the member’s dues, must prorate the dues by the number of months and payroll deduction periods remaining in the membership year.

If you are working for more than 30 days during the school year in a school district or BOCES without an active CEA Local Association, you may join CEA-NEA through CEA. Click here for a membership form. Write a check for your dues. Mail your form and the check to Julie Moot, Colorado Education Association, 1500 Grant Street, Denver, Colorado 80203. You may pay dues through automatic checking account deduction/electronic funds transfer. If you choose to do this, complete both the membership form and this EFT Form.
